Malkangiri Floods: Minister Pujari Reviews Situation, Four Roads Cut Off
Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari reviewed the flood situation in Malkangiri district on Saturday, following heavy rainfall triggered by a low‑pressure system.
During discussions with the district Collector, the Minister assessed relief measures and preparedness.
Four major roads have been cut off as water overflowed, halting vehicular movement for safety.
Relief arrangements are underway with food and drinking water supplied to stranded drivers, while health teams remain on alert.
The government had sanctioned funds last year to raise the height of flood‑prone roads, and further steps are planned to prevent recurring disruptions.
According to official data, Malkangiri and Chitrakonda recorded 192 mm of rainfall each, Dabugam 135 mm, and Balimela Dam area 219 mm.
The Minister emphasised that long‑term infrastructure upgrades are essential to safeguard connectivity and minimise flood impact in the region.
