Mayurbhanj Ashram School Students Walk 8 km to Demand Basic Amenities
In a striking display of frustration, nearly 250 boarders of Bisipur Ashram School in Udala, Mayurbhanj, staged a protest march covering 8 km to highlight the lack of essential facilities in their hostel.
The group, comprising 100 boys and 150 girls, alleged that for over two months they have been deprived of drinking water, electricity, and proper food.
Students claimed they were served insect‑infested rice and that repeated complaints to hostel authorities—including the in‑charge, matron, and headmaster—were ignored.
Instead of addressing their grievances, they were reportedly scolded for raising concerns.
Determined to make their voices heard, the students left the hostel and marched towards the offices of the Block Development Officer (BDO) and Education Officer.
They were intercepted at Khunta Chowk and taken to the Khunta Block office, where their demands were discussed in the presence of the Sub‑Collector, ITDA Project Administrator, and BDO.
The students demanded immediate intervention to improve food quality and restore basic amenities.
The incident underscores the neglect in hostel management and highlights the vulnerability of tribal students who depend on Ashram schools for education and shelter.
