IMD Warns of Heavy Rain, High Winds in Odisha Sept 23–24

Bhubaneswar, Sept 21: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rainfall and strong winds across Odisha as a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal intensifies.

While the system is not expected to develop into a cyclone, it will trigger torrential rain and gusty winds between September 23–24, with coastal and southern districts south of Puri likely to be worst affected.

Authorities have placed 11 districts on high alert, anticipating rainfall up to 20 cm in some areas, raising risks of urban flooding and waterlogging.

Wind speeds are forecast to reach 55–65 km/h from September 22 evening.

Reservoir management orders have been issued to reduce water levels in Indravati and Telengiri, while Balimela and Kolab dams remain within safe limits.

District Collectors have been directed to activate emergency responses to safeguard lives and infrastructure.
