Odisha Governor Calls for Sustained Thalassemia Awareness Campaigns
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati has urged the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) to intensify long‑term thalassemia awareness campaigns across the state.
Speaking at the executive committee meeting of the IRCS Odisha State Branch, the Governor highlighted the importance of identifying undetected cases and spreading knowledge about the blood disorder.
He advised the Red Cross to hold at least three meetings annually to review humanitarian and healthcare initiatives.
Stressing the need for resource mobilisation, he suggested approaching corporate organisations for CSR support and seeking cooperation from the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to strengthen elderly care services.
The Governor also emphasized specialized training for volunteers in elderly care and encouraged greater youth participation to expand Red Cross services in Odisha.
Senior officials from multiple state departments and IRCS members attended the meeting, where the Honorary Secretary presented the activity report.
