Odisha Government Directs 7 State Universities to Expedite NAAC Accreditation Renewal

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move aimed at improving the quality and national standing of higher education institutions, Odisha Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj has instructed seven state-run universities to expedite the renewal of their National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation.

The universities asked to fast-track the accreditation process include Vikram Deb University, Rajendra University, Dharanidhar University, Madhusudan Law University, and Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya, among others.

The minister assured that the state government would provide full logistical and administrative support to ensure the accreditation exercise is completed smoothly.

As part of broader reforms in the higher education sector, the state government has already appointed Vice-Chancellors in universities and is currently conducting interviews to recruit more than 1,400 professors and associate professors.

The Higher Education Department is also working closely with the University Grants Commission (UGC) to strengthen academic infrastructure and institutional performance across Odisha’s universities.

Officials believe that timely NAAC accreditation and improved academic standards will help state universities achieve better positions in national rankings, including the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing quality education, governance, research output, and overall institutional excellence in the state’s higher education ecosystem.
