Odisha Cold Wave: IMD Issues Dense Fog Warning for Six Districts

Odisha is reeling under a severe cold wave as temperatures dip sharply across several districts, disrupting daily life and travel.

According to the Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre, night temperatures are expected to remain low for the coming week, prolonging discomfort for residents.

The coldest location recorded was G. Udayagiri at 5.6°C, followed by Similiguda (7.5°C), Daringibadi (8°C), Rourkela (8.1°C), Phulbani (8.5°C), and Jharsuguda (8.6°C). The steep drop has forced residents to brace for chilly mornings and evenings.

Adding to the challenge, dense fog has blanketed several regions, reducing visibility and disrupting vehicular movement on major routes. Authorities have urged commuters to exercise caution, especially during early morning hours.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a dense fog warning for the next two days across six districts: Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, Sonepur, and Bolangir.

Residents in these areas are advised to remain alert to sudden weather changes and follow safety advisories while travelling.

This prolonged cold spell highlights the need for preparedness as Odisha faces one of its harshest winter phases in recent years.
