Odisha Braces for Nor’wester Storms as IMD Issues Alerts
Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded yellow and orange warnings across Odisha as Kalbaisakhi (Nor’wester) storms sweep through the state.
Nineteen districts are under yellow alert, while eleven districts face orange warnings for thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, lightning, and hail.
In a special advisory, IMD urged residents of Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Rayagada to remain indoors for the next three hours due to severe weather conditions.
Wind speeds ranging between 40–60 km/h are expected, raising concerns of damage to property and crops.
Authorities have advised people to stay in safe locations and avoid vulnerable areas until conditions improve.
The warnings highlight the need for preparedness as Odisha faces the seasonal fury of Nor’wester storms.
