Odisha Braces for Heavy Rainfall; Schools and Anganwadi Centres Closed Across Districts
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has announced precautionary closures of schools and Anganwadi centres in several districts as the state braces for heavy rainfall triggered by a depression over the Bay of Bengal.
In Khordha, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts, all educational institutions from Sishu Vatika to Class XII will remain closed from September 22 to 24.
Teachers and staff have been directed to report for duty, with roster arrangements in place to ensure administrative continuity. Jagatsinghpur district has declared closures only for September 22.
Meanwhile, the National Rural Talent Scholarship (NRTS) examination scheduled for September 22 will continue as planned at designated centres.
In Koraput, teachers have been instructed not to leave headquarters until September 25 due to the anticipated adverse weather.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the depression is likely to intensify into a deep depression and cross the coast between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur during the night of September 23–24.
Forecasts warn of squally winds reaching 55–65 kmph, gusting up to 75 kmph, along with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha.
District administrations have stepped up precautionary measures to safeguard children and vulnerable groups, urging residents to remain alert and follow official advisories.
