Odisha Braces for Heavy Rain as Bay of Bengal Low Pressure Intensifies
Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a high‑level weather warning after a low‑pressure area formed over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, triggered by an upper‑air cyclonic circulation.
According to IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected across several districts of North Odisha over the next 48 hours.
- Red Warning: Mayurbhanj district is likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places.
- Orange Warning: Baleshwar, Bhadrak, and Kendujhar districts may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph.
- Yellow Warning: Thirteen districts, including Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, and Khordha, are expected to receive heavy rainfall at isolated places.
Authorities have urged residents in red and orange warning zones to remain alert and avoid vulnerable areas during intense rainfall periods. The IMD continues to monitor the evolving weather system closely.
