Rayagada, Sept 10: A tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of Thursday when a tusker was fatally struck by a train near Brundabadi, between Bissamcuttack and Therubali railway stations in Rayagada district.

According to reports, the elephant was critically injured after colliding with the train engine and collapsed beside the track. Despite immediate alerts to the Forest Department, the animal succumbed to its injuries before officials arrived.

The accident has once again highlighted the growing concern over elephant deaths due to train collisions in Odisha, raising questions about wildlife safety measures along railway corridors. Forest officials have initiated an inquiry into the circumstances of the incident.
