Odisha Begins DGP Appointment Process with Panel of Three Officers

Bhubaneswar, April 20: The process to appoint the next Director General of Police (DGP) in Odisha has officially commenced as the tenure of current DGP Y B Khurania nears completion on August 16, 2026.

The state police headquarters has forwarded a panel of three senior officers—Sudhanshu Sarangi, Susanta Kumar Nath, and R P Koche—to the government.

This panel will be submitted to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) next month for evaluation.

The UPSC Empanelment Committee will assess the officers’ service records, disciplinary history, and leadership credentials before finalizing the list.

The state government will then appoint the new DGP from the UPSC‑approved panel.

This procedure, guided by established norms, underscores Odisha’s commitment to transparency, merit‑based selection, and professional integrity in police leadership.
