Angul Police Bust Major Brown Sugar Racket, Five Arrested
Chhendipada Police, in collaboration with the Angul district Special Squad, successfully dismantled a major brown sugar racket in Angul.
Acting on intelligence, the team conducted a raid that led to the arrest of five individuals involved in drug trafficking.
During the operation, police seized 11.590 grams of brown sugar, Rs 15,370 in suspected drug proceeds, 27 transaction-linked paper chits, two OPPO mobile phones, and a Royal Enfield motorcycle (OD-19-AD-0476).
The arrested individuals include Papun Sahu (26) of Kosala village, Sandip Pradhan @ Khitu (34) of Kansanali village, and three suppliers — Deepak Pradhan (36), Kajal Parwin (27), and Kuresa Bibi (52) — all from Angul.
The case has been registered at Chhendipada Police Station (Case No. 291/2026) under Sections 21(b) and 29 of the NDPS Act.
The operation was supervised by Inspector D.M. Biswal, with SI Jagadish Jena leading the investigation.
Police confirmed that further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and identify additional peddlers and suppliers.
The accused have been forwarded to court.
