Chandan Yatra Commences at Jagannath Temple on Akshaya Tritiya
Puri, April 20: The sacred Chandan Yatra commenced today at Shree Jagannath Temple, Puri, marking the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya 2026.
The festival, celebrated with sandalwood rituals and water voyages, symbolizes purity and devotion while offering relief during the summer season.
As part of the Bahara Chandan Yatra, deities were ceremoniously taken to Narendra Pushkarini for a grand water voyage, accompanied by chants, music, and large gatherings of devotees.
The ritual will continue for 21 days before transitioning into the Bhitara Chandan Yatra, where ceremonies are performed inside the temple for another 21 days.
The event highlights Odisha’s rich spiritual heritage, blending age‑old traditions with devotional fervor, and draws pilgrims from across India to witness the grandeur of Jagannath culture.
