Normal Monsoon Rainfall Expected in Odisha Despite El Niño, Assures Minister Pujari
Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to receive normal rainfall during the upcoming monsoon season despite the presence of El Niño conditions, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said on Saturday.
Addressing concerns among farmers, the Minister urged them not to panic, stressing that forecasts indicate no alarming situation for the state.
Odisha typically requires around 1,452 mm of rainfall during the monsoon, and precipitation levels are expected to remain close to this mark.
To safeguard agriculture, the government has prepared contingency plans to tackle any shortfall.
These include water conservation measures, protection of water bodies, and strengthening irrigation projects.
Inter‑departmental coordination is underway to ensure preparedness and protect farmers’ interests.
“The government is closely monitoring the situation and remains committed to supporting farmers throughout the season,” Pujari added.
