Bhubaneswar: Odisha authorities are on high alert following forecasts of widespread rainfall under the influence of Cyclone Arnab, which is expected to impact weather conditions across several districts in the coming days.
According to the Odisha Meteorological Centre, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over southern, coastal, central and western parts of the state, with the intensity expected to peak on Wednesday.
Districts such as Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri are likely to experience very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.
On Tuesday, heavy rainfall is expected in Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts.
The weather system is expected to strengthen further, leading to more widespread precipitation across southern Odisha and adjoining regions.
Meteorologists have identified Wednesday as the most critical day, warning of intense rainfall in several districts.
Apart from the southern districts, heavy rain is also likely in Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Balangir, Nuapada and Bargarh.
The rainfall belt is expected to gradually shift towards northern and western Odisha on Thursday, affecting districts including Sundargarh and neighbouring interior regions.
Coastal districts may witness a reduction in rainfall intensity during this period.
State authorities have advised residents in vulnerable and low-lying areas to remain alert and follow official advisories.
Fishermen have been warned against venturing into deep-sea waters due to rough sea conditions associated with the cyclonic system.
Disaster response teams and district administrations are closely monitoring the situation, while emergency preparedness measures have been strengthened in districts likely to face heavy rainfall.
Weather officials have urged citizens to stay updated through official bulletins and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
