Puri Railway Station Redevelopment Fast‑Tracked Ahead of Rath Yatra 2027
Odisha Governor Dr Kambhampati Hari Babu recently reviewed the progress of the ambitious redevelopment of Puri Railway Station, emphasising timely completion before the Rath Yatra of 2027.
The modernisation project aims to transform the station into a world‑class hub with upgraded passenger amenities and improved accessibility.
The redevelopment plan includes a new façade, modern entry and exit gates, wall cladding, ceiling works, and enhanced public areas.
Facilities such as food courts, Jana Ahara outlets, retiring rooms, dormitories, lounges, automatic ticket vending machines, Divyangjan‑friendly parking, baggage scanners, and barrier‑free access are being incorporated to improve passenger convenience.
Governor Hari Babu stressed the importance of efficient service delivery and accessibility for lakhs of pilgrims expected during Rath Yatra.
Weekly progress monitoring through PERT charts and close coordination between Railways and state departments have been mandated to ensure deadlines are met.
The project is part of a broader national vision under Prime Minister Narendra Modi to modernise railway infrastructure, boost connectivity, and strengthen tourism and economic growth.
Similar modernisation works are underway at Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Sambalpur, and Brahmapur stations under East Coast Railway.
