Nandankanan Zoo Welcomes 58 Exotic Animals From Gujarat Trust
Bhubaneswar’s Nandankanan Zoological Park has expanded its biodiversity with the arrival of 58 exotic animals across 14 species, donated by the Radha Krishna Temple Elephant Welfare Trust (RKTEWT), Gujarat, on September 12, 2026.
The new residents include zebras, kangaroos, Bennett’s wallabies, ring‑tailed lemurs, tufted capuchins, scarlet macaws, blue‑and‑gold macaws, green‑winged macaws, sulphur‑crested cockatoos, crowned cranes, scarlet ibises, meerkats, cassowaries, and blue wildebeests.
With these additions, Nandankanan now houses 188 species, introducing 10 new species, pairing one existing species, and refreshing bloodlines for three others.
Officials noted that the infusion will strengthen conservation education, biodiversity awareness, and visitor engagement.
Currently, all animals are under quarantine and will be managed under strict veterinary and husbandry protocols to ensure welfare, acclimatisation, and scientific care.
