IMD Warns Fishermen of Rough Seas Along Odisha Coast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for fishermen and coastal residents in Odisha, urging them to avoid venturing into the sea between July 27–29, 2026.

The advisory comes as a deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal intensifies, bringing squally winds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, and rough to very rough sea conditions.

The system is expected to move northwards, skirting Sagar Island and crossing the coast between Balasore and Canning, near Haldia, later today.

Authorities have advised fishermen already at sea to return immediately and coastal communities to remain vigilant.

This alert underscores the IMD’s focus on safeguarding lives and livelihoods, particularly in vulnerable fishing communities along the Odisha coast.
