Heatwave Grips Odisha, Bhubaneswar Sees Sharp Rise

Odisha is reeling under a severe heatwave as temperatures soared past 40°C in several western districts.

Jharsuguda recorded the highest at 41.8°C, followed by Sambalpur at 41.2°C and Hirakud at 40.6°C. Rourkela reported 38°C, while Keonjhar touched 39.4°C.

The capital city, Bhubaneswar, witnessed a sharp rise, climbing to 38.4°C by 11:30 am compared to 35.4°C the previous day.

Meteorological officials have warned that the heatwave will persist for the next five days, with western Odisha likely to see temperatures above 42°C.

Coastal regions, including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, are facing severe discomfort due to high humidity levels.

Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors during peak hours, drink plenty of water, and avoid prolonged sun exposure to prevent heatstroke.
