Golden Glory: Suna Besha 2026 Dazzles Devotees in Puri
Puri, July 25, 2026: The sacred city of Puri witnessed a divine spectacle today as Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra, and Sudarshan were adorned in glittering gold ornaments during the revered Suna Besha ritual.
Lakhs of devotees thronged the Bada Danda (Grand Road) to catch a glimpse of the deities in their resplendent attire, marking one of the most significant highlights of the annual Rath Yatra.
The deities were decorated with intricately crafted ornaments including Kirita (crown), Kundala (earrings), Ghagada Mali, Bahada Mali, Harida Mali, Kadamba Mali, Baghanakhi Mali, Sebati Mali, Hala Mushala, Chakra, and Tilak.
The ritual began at 5 pm and continued until 11 pm, after which the ornaments were reverently removed during the Mailam ritual.
With massive crowds expected, the Puri district administration implemented strict crowd‑control measures.
Barricades were set up along the Grand Road, and a streamlined traffic plan guided devotees to enter from the left, have darshan before the three chariots, and exit from the right.
Officials urged devotees to cooperate with security personnel to ensure smooth proceedings.
The Suna Besha remains a breathtaking spiritual spectacle, symbolising the grandeur of Jagannath culture and reinforcing Puri’s status as a global centre of devotion.
