Ganjam Gets ₹492-Crore Boost as CM Majhi Concludes Gopalpur Beach Festival

Ganjam district witnessed a major development push as Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi attended the closing ceremony of the Gopalpur Beach Festival 2026.

The CM announced projects worth Rs 492 crore, including health infrastructure, hostel facilities, and road construction.

Majhi inaugurated 15 projects valued at over Rs 50 crore and laid foundation stones for 64 projects totalling Rs 442 crore.

A special allocation of Rs 32 crore was made for the beautification and upgradation of Gopalpur Beach, with an emphasis on sustainable tourism and eco-certifications.

The CM also revived the Upendra Bhanja Chair at Berhampur University and declared May 16, the poet’s birth anniversary, as a state-level festival to be celebrated annually for seven days.

Highlighting economic growth, Majhi announced a Rs 16,554 crore investment for the expansion and modernisation of Gopalpur Port, which will boost cargo capacity to 50 million metric tonnes and generate nearly 5,000 jobs.

He also referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of a new port at Bahuda with an investment of Rs 21,500 crore.

The festival finale included cultural highlights such as Samudra Aarti, the release of the souvenir Shamuka, and the launch of the Ganjam-360 app.

Majhi praised local communities for their beach cleanup drives and emphasised livelihood opportunities for self-help groups, women, and youth.

With ministers, MLAs, and district officials in attendance, the event underscored the government’s commitment to integrated development, cultural preservation, and positioning Ganjam as a hub for heritage and sustainable coastal tourism.
