Food Scare in Mayurbhanj: 50 Girls Hospitalised After Eating Chhatua

More than 50 girl students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Saragada, Bijatala block of Mayurbhanj district, fell ill after consuming chhatua served at the hostel.

The students, from Classes VI to X, complained of stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhoea.

Nineteen of the seriously affected students were rushed to Rairangpur Sub‑Divisional Hospital, while over 30 others received treatment at the hostel under medical supervision.

Officials including the Sub‑Collector and Block Education Officer visited the hospital to review the situation.

Doctors confirmed that the condition of the students is stable.

Eighteen have already been discharged, and the rest are recovering.

Preliminary reports suggest contaminated chhatua as the cause, with samples sent for examination.

Dr Debendranath Tudu of Rairangpur Hospital assured that the situation is under control.
