Dhenkanal: Domestic Dispute Turns Violent, Father-in-law Critical
In a shocking incident at Naupala village under Parjang block of Dhenkanal district, a domestic conflict escalated when a woman allegedly attacked her father-in-law with boiling oil.
The accused, identified as Kusmita Behera, a widow living with her 13‑year‑old daughter, reportedly faced continuous harassment from her father-in-law, Srikant Bhutia.
Neighbours claimed that Srikant subjected her to physical and mental abuse, forcing her to work as a labourer to support her daughter’s education.
On Monday, after being locked inside the house, Kusmita poured boiling oil on Srikant when he opened the door.
He sustained severe burns on his chest, stomach, and face.
The injured man was rushed to Parjang Medical Centre, where his condition remains critical.
Police have detained Kusmita and are interrogating her at Parjang police station.
The incident has sparked discussions on domestic violence and the plight of widows in rural Odisha.
