Deep Depression to Cross North Andhra–South Odisha Coast Tonight
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning as a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal moves steadily westwards.
As of early morning on September 23, 2026, the system was centred near latitude 18.0°N and longitude 84.7°E, about 70 km east-southeast of Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and 150 km south of Gopalpur in Odisha.
The depression is expected to make landfall near Kalingapatnam by nightfall, bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds to coastal districts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea and urged authorities to remain on high alert for possible flooding and damage to infrastructure.
With the system moving at 12 kmph, residents in low-lying areas have been asked to prepare for waterlogging and disruptions.
Emergency teams are on standby to respond to any crisis as the weather system intensifies.
