Contract Worker Dies After 30‑Foot Fall at Rourkela Steel Plant, Safety Probe Ordered
Rourkela (Odisha): A tragic accident at the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) claimed the life of contract worker Prakash Swain, who fell from nearly 30 feet while cleaning sickle sheets at the Canning Plant (CP‑2).
Colleagues rushed him to the plant’s primary hospital before shifting him to Ispat General Hospital (IGH), where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
His body has been kept in the hospital morgue for post‑mortem and other formalities.
In response, RSP management suspended two employees for alleged negligence and formed a high‑level inquiry team to investigate safety lapses.
Senior officials expressed condolences to Swain’s family and assured support.
The incident has sparked demands from workers for stricter safety protocols to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
