Centre Approves ₹447.11 Crore for Western Odisha Highway Upgrade

The Centre has sanctioned Rs 447.11 crore to upgrade the Kurumpuri–Raj Khariar road section in western Odisha, covering 103.52 km across NHRs 353 and NHRs 59 in Nuapada and Balangir districts.

This stretch forms a vital interstate corridor linking Raipur–Mahasamund in Chhattisgarh with Odisha, extending towards Berhampur and Gopalpur Port.

The project aims to enhance passenger and freight movement across Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Ganjam districts.

Road safety improvements, including rectification of accident‑prone black spots and paved shoulders for two‑wheelers, are central to the plan.

Additionally, the upgrade is expected to boost tourism by improving access to destinations such as Daringbadi and Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary.

Aligned with the Gati Shakti mission, the initiative underscores integrated and multimodal infrastructure planning.

Officials highlight that the project will strengthen connectivity in western Odisha, supporting industrial logistics and unlocking tourism potential.
