BKPPER Set to Drive Odisha’s Economic Future
The Bhubaneswar–Kataka–Puri–Paradip Economic Region (BKPPER) has been identified as a major growth engine for Odisha’s economy, aligning with Vision 2036 and Viksit Bharat 2047.
Chief Secretary Anu Garg emphasised the need for coordinated, innovative, and collaborative efforts across departments to ensure effective implementation.
Covering four districts—Khordha, Kataka, Puri, and Jagatsinghpur—along with 19 urban areas, BKPPER envisions a contiguous, sustainable economic corridor with integrated infrastructure.
The initiative is expected to generate over 40 lakh non‑farm jobs and attract corporate investment exceeding $400 billion.
Key interventions include multimodal transport, affordable housing, pedestrian‑friendly urban design, climate‑resilient ecosystems, and urban regeneration.
BKPPER is one of four pilot projects under the Union government’s City Economic Region Scheme, with 269 projects across 19 sectors identified by NITI Aayog.
To oversee planning, financing, and investment mobilisation, the Capital Economic Region Development Authority (CERDA) has been approved.
Financing support from the Asian Development Bank is also being explored, positioning BKPPER as a transformative initiative to boost Odisha’s GDP while ensuring sustainability and inclusivity.
