20 Kg Venison Seized, Poacher Nabbed in Bhitarkanika
Kendrapara: Forest officials in Bhitarkanika National Park have seized nearly 20 kilograms of venison and arrested a suspected poacher during a raid in the Dakhina Mahinsidiha Protected Reserve Forest.
Authorities recovered a nylon net used to trap deer, confirming that the accused had killed a spotted deer.
Officials stated that the arrested man is part of a larger poaching group known for hunting wild boar and deer species in the region.
The accused has been booked under Sections 9, 27, 29, and 35 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
Forest officials are continuing investigations to identify and apprehend other members of the gang.
This incident highlights ongoing challenges in protecting Bhitarkanika’s rich biodiversity and the urgent need to curb illegal wildlife hunting in Odisha’s protected reserves.
