Transgender Woman Stabbed to Death Near Uttara Chhak, Community Demands Justice

Bhubaneswar/Puri: In a shocking incident, a transgender woman identified as Anjali alias Sona from Salepur was brutally stabbed to death near Uttara Chhak on NH‑316 under Pipili police limits late Sunday night.

According to eyewitness accounts, the attack occurred around 9 pm near the Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA). Two bike‑borne youths intercepted Sona, leading to a heated argument.

As she attempted to flee, the assailants stabbed her multiple times.

Though she briefly regained consciousness and informed her associates, she succumbed to her injuries after being rushed to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Police from Dhauli station reached the spot promptly and have launched an investigation. Preliminary findings suggest past enmity may have been the motive, as Sona had shifted to Uttara only two days earlier.

Authorities are scanning CCTV footage and analysing her mobile phone records to identify the culprits.

The transgender community in Bhubaneswar has strongly condemned the killing, demanding swift justice and enhanced safety measures.

Activists expressed fear and outrage, urging authorities to ensure protection for marginalised groups.

This incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of transgender individuals in Odisha and the urgent need for stronger safeguards against targeted violence.
