Sundargarh Teacher Collapses During Census Work, Dies at Hospital
Sundargarh, April 28: A tragic incident has shaken Sundargarh district as Anurag Ekka, a teacher at Jarda High School in Gurundia block, collapsed and died while performing census field duties.
He was rushed to Sundargarh Government Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Family members allege that Ekka, who had no prior health issues, succumbed to heatstroke amid the ongoing heatwave.
His mother and wife expressed grief, stating that the loss of their sole breadwinner has left them in deep distress.
This incident follows the recent death of another teacher, Rajkapur Hembram from Mayurbhanj, also while on census duty, raising serious concerns about the safety of field workers during extreme weather conditions.
The local community mourns Ekka’s passing, while calls grow louder for authorities to implement protective measures such as hydration support, adjusted duty hours, and health monitoring for census staff.
As of now, no official statement has been issued regarding the cause of death.
