Sundargarh Group Clash: Six Arrested, Internet Suspended, Police Hunt Absconders
Sundargarh town witnessed tense scenes after a rumour alleging beef storage at a local residence sparked violent clashes between two groups.
Despite police clarifications that no beef was found, mobs gathered near the Regent Market gate, leading to vandalism, arson, and injuries.
Two police personnel and eight civilians sustained injuries during the confrontation. Several shops were damaged, and vehicles were set ablaze as the situation escalated.
Authorities acted swiftly, arresting six individuals from both communities while launching a manhunt for others who fled. The arrested persons were produced before a local court.
To restore order, Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) was imposed, internet services were suspended for 24 hours, and educational institutions, along with markets,s were closed.
Senior officials,s including DIG Brijesh Kumar Rai, SP AmritPal Kaur, and District Collector Dr Subhankar Mohapatr, are closely monitoring developments to prevent further unrest.
