SJTA Announces SOP for Darshan, Tightens Mobile Ban at Jagannath Temple
Puri, Odisha (Jan 5, 2026): The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has announced new measures to streamline darshan and reinforce discipline within the temple premises.
A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been prepared specifically for guests visiting under protocol, with the responsibility for managing such visits resting solely on the temple administration.
In a significant move, SJTA has tightened restrictions on mobile phone usage inside the temple.
Only individuals with official or ritual-related duties will be permitted to carry mobile devices beyond designated points.
The announcement follows a recent controversy during darshan, which Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee attributed to a lack of coordination.
Offering an apology, he ordered an inquiry into the incident and assured strict action against those found guilty, based on CCTV footage.
These measures aim to ensure smoother darshan experiences, uphold sanctity, and prevent future lapses in temple management.
