Sambalpur Police Seize Brown Sugar, Arrest Five in Early Morning Raid
Sambalpur police intensified their crackdown on narcotics with a major raid near Sambalpur Zoo on April 5, 2026.
Acting on a tip‑off, a team led by SI Shubasmita Roy stormed a deserted BSNL quarters at 7 a.m. and seized 50.4 grams of brown sugar.
Five individuals — Sudip Mahanand, Premanand Nag, Jogesh Oram, Somanath Pradhan, and Rampal Oram — were arrested. Police also recovered a scooter, Rs 12,400 in cash, and four mobile phones.
Officials confirmed the group was actively engaged in the brown sugar trade.
This operation follows a similar arrest just a week earlier, when Arman Khan was caught with 61 grams of brown sugar and a country‑made gun.
The back‑to‑back seizures highlight the district police’s intensified vigilance against drug rackets threatening youth and community safety.
Local residents praised the police action and urged authorities to maintain strict surveillance to curb the growing menace of narcotics in Sambalpur.
