India’s Thorium Reactor Milestone: CM Majhi Applauds Breakthrough

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has hailed India’s landmark achievement in nuclear energy after the Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) at Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu, attained first criticality using thorium-based fuel.

Majhi described the breakthrough as a transformative leap toward sustainable and self-reliant energy, underscoring India’s scientific prowess and strategic vision.

He emphasised that the thorium-based PFBR will reduce dependence on conventional energy sources and strengthen India’s global position in clean energy innovation.

The Chief Minister credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for guiding the project, which reflects India’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and energy security.

Experts believe the PFBR will play a pivotal role in India’s long-term energy independence and leadership in advanced nuclear technology.
