Odisha Fishermen Warned as Squally Weather Hits Coast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a stern warning to fishermen along the Odisha coast, urging them not to venture into the sea due to squally weather conditions.

Wind speeds are expected to reach 60–70 kmph, gusting up to 80 kmph, accompanied by rough to very rough sea conditions.

Thunderstorms with rain and strong winds are forecast to continue until April 10, affecting districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms, avoid open areas, and refrain from taking shelter under trees or near electrical poles.

The IMD has emphasised that fishermen should strictly adhere to the advisory to prevent accidents at sea.
