CRUT Expands E‑Bus Services, Boosts Safety & Revenue in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) has reviewed its urban mobility initiatives, highlighting progress in e‑mobility, safety, and financial sustainability.

In Phase I, electric bus services were launched in Keonjhar, Baripada, Angul, Jharsuguda, and Balasore, with Keonjhar recording nearly 1,300 daily passengers.

Phase II will extend services to Jajpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Bhadrak, and Balangir.

Officials were directed to expedite charging infrastructure and power connectivity under the PM e‑Bus Sewa Scheme.

CRUT also reported a rise in non‑fare box revenue, reaching 22.05% in 2025, driven by advertising and commercial utilisation of depots.

Safety remains a priority, with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Driver Fatigue Monitoring Systems (DFMS) deployed across the fleet.

All new electric buses will feature ADAS‑enabled safety mechanisms.

In a progressive step, women drivers have been engaged in Keonjhar’s electric bus operations.

CRUT also proposed an MoU with Sri Sri University for psychometric evaluation and structured training of bus captains.

The Minister emphasised the timely completion of projects, faster deployment of e‑mobility, stronger safety mechanisms, and citizen‑centric, financially resilient transport services.
