Sambalpur: Authorities at Hirakud Dam closed five gates in two phases on Saturday, leaving only three gates open—two on the left and one on the right.

By 9 PM, the reservoir’s water level had fallen to 611.54 feet, with inflow recorded at 60,445 cusecs and outflow at 92,542 cusecs.

Discharge details show 63,733 cusecs released through the spillway, 25,032 cusecs via the power channel, 247 cusecs for industrial use, and 3,530 cusecs through canals.

Downstream flow remained significant, with 1,82,000 cusecs at Khairmal, 1,77,500 cusecs at Barmul, and 87,700 cusecs at Munduli.

Rainfall in the past 24 hours measured 1.40 mm in the upper catchment and 2.07 mm in the lower catchment.

Officials expressed concern over the lack of adequate flood data from Chhattisgarh, which could affect preparedness in case of heavy inflows.
