Crackdown in Barbil Market: Over 151 Kg of Banned Plastic Seized, Rs.9,000/- Fine Imposed

Barbil: In a decisive move against plastic pollution, a joint enforcement drive by the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (Keonjhar Regional Office) and Barbil Municipality seized more than 151 kilograms of banned single-use plastic from local shops in Barbil market today.

The operation targeted plastic carry bags below 120 microns in thickness, which remain prohibited under state regulations.

During the inspection, enforcement teams confiscated 151.331 kg of illegal plastic materials and imposed fines totalling Rs. 9,000/- on violators.

The enforcement squad included Soumya Pradhan, Officer of the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (Keonjhar), Ramesh Chandra Nayak, Executive Officer of Barbil Municipality, along with members of the municipality’s sanitation department.

Officials emphasised that this action marks a significant step toward environmental protection and curbing the menace of plastic pollution in the region.
