Puri Beach Witnesses Major Clean‑Up Drive Under ‘Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar’ Campaign
Puri Beach turned into a hub of environmental action as the BRIC–Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar, organised a large‑scale clean‑up drive.
The initiative was part of the Ministry of Earth Sciences’ “Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar – Clean Coast, Safe Sea” campaign.
Over 60 students, scientists, and staff members actively participated, removing plastic waste and debris from the shoreline.
The team also engaged with tourists, urging them to avoid littering and support coastal cleanliness.
The drive was led by Dr Debasish Dash, Director of ILS, with notable participation from Dr Dinabandhu Sahoo (University of Delhi, former IBSD Director) and Er. Binod Yadav (Lighthouse, Puri).
The campaign emphasised collective responsibility, sustained awareness, and responsible tourism to safeguard marine ecosystems.
Organisers highlighted that protecting coastlines is vital for marine life and environmental sustainability.
