PEO Caught Taking ₹18K Bribe in Mayurbhanj, Odisha Vigilance Registers Case

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials on Tuesday apprehended Parsuram Naik, Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) of Mirginendi Gram Panchayat under Karanjia block, while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 18,000.

According to sources, Naik had demanded the money from a contractual staffer to process arrear remuneration files.

The staffer had not received dues between March 2023 and April 2025, despite clear orders from the Block Development Officer.

Acting on a complaint, Vigilance sleuths laid a trap and recovered the bribe amount from Naik’s possession.

The cash was seized as evidence.

Simultaneous searches are underway at two of Naik’s linked premises to detect disproportionate assets.

A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 (Balasore Vigilance PS Case No. 7/2026).

Investigators will probe both the bribery incident and Naik’s financial records.
