OMC 71st Foundation Day: CM Majhi Calls for Nationwide Expansion, Critical Minerals Push

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) marked its 71st Foundation Day at the Lok Seva Bhawan Convention Centre, with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi hailing the PSU as a “pillar of Odisha’s economy” and urging nationwide expansion.

From a modest turnover of Rs 1 crore in the 1960s, OMC has grown into a mining giant with revenues of Rs 25,000 crore in 2025-26, producing 45 million tonnes of minerals.

The CM emphasised OMC’s role in India’s critical minerals revolution, highlighting pilot testing for Platinum Group Elements (PGE) extraction at Bangur Chromite Mine—positioning Odisha as a future supplier for clean energy, electronics, and electric vehicles.

OMC’s CSR initiatives were also spotlighted, with investments in education, healthcare, water supply, women’s empowerment, sports, and infrastructure across mining communities.

On the occasion, several projects were inaugurated, including the permanent campus of Odisha Mining Ideal School at Kaliapani, eight Basic Life Support ambulances, an Integrated Command & Control Centre, and the “O‑Swasthya” digital health management platform.

With global demand for iron ore, bauxite, and chromite rising, OMC aims to strengthen its presence in the international critical minerals market, aligning Odisha’s mining sector with India’s growth trajectory.
