Odisha Unveils ₹4.62‑Crore Blueprint for Drug‑Free Future

The Odisha government has unveiled a comprehensive Rs 4.62-crore master plan to make the state drug-free, spearheaded by the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) Department.

The proposal has been submitted to the Centre for approval.

The initiative prioritises awareness campaigns across schools, colleges, and panchayats, covering 150 educational institutions.

Activities such as marathons, walkathons, and cycle rallies will be organised to promote healthy, addiction‑free lifestyles.

A budget of Rs 1.65 crore has been earmarked for awareness programmes, while Rs 76.40 lakh will be used to mobilise 1,500 volunteers.

Each district will appoint 50 “Nasha Mukta Mitras” to lead counselling and grassroots campaigns.

Anti‑drug committee meetings will be held in every block, alongside awareness drives in 300 panchayats.

The plan emphasises prevention through education and community involvement rather than punitive measures, aiming to build a healthier, more responsible society free from substance abuse.
