Residents of Odisha’s remote border district of Malkangiri are set to witness a historic milestone as direct commercial flights to Bhubaneswar commence on 3 September 2026.

The service, operated with 9‑seater aircraft, promises to drastically cut travel time compared to the long and tiring road journey.

District authorities confirmed that all arrangements are in place, with successful trial runs of the runway and security systems.

An exclusive online booking portal will soon go live, enabling passengers to reserve seats conveniently.

Calling the launch a “historic success,” the District Collector emphasised that the air link will not only save time but also boost tourism, healthcare access, education opportunities, and economic growth.
