Odisha to Recycle Drain Water for Farms and Factories
Bhubaneswar, April 29: In a major step towards sustainable urban development, Odisha’s Urban Development Department has unveiled plans to treat and reuse drain water for non‑potable purposes such as agriculture irrigation, industrial cooling, and firefighting operations.
Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra stated that the initiative will help conserve freshwater resources while ensuring essential services are supported.
Modern treatment systems will be deployed to guarantee safety and efficiency.
The government also aims to restore and beautify city ponds and water bodies, enhancing urban aesthetics and aiding groundwater recharge.
Pilot projects are expected to begin soon, with the reuse of drain water projected to reduce dependency on conventional sources and help cities manage water stress effectively.
This initiative reflects Odisha’s commitment to environmental sustainability and innovative resource management.
