Odisha on Alert: IMD Warns of Heavy Rain in 5 Districts

Bhubaneswar, June 12: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh warnings as pre‑monsoon showers intensify across Odisha.

Five districts — Malkangiri, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapara, and Cuttack — are under orange warning for heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds reaching 40–50 km/h.

Eighteen other districts have been placed under yellow alert, with forecasts of thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate showers.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, avoid flood‑prone and lightning‑prone areas, and limit outdoor activities.

The IMD noted that unstable atmospheric conditions are likely to trigger unpredictable showers across the state, marking a significant pre‑monsoon activity.

Officials emphasised preparedness and safety measures to minimise risks during this period of volatile weather.
