Odisha Launches Puri–Koraput & Brahmapur–Udhna Trains, Boosts Rail Connectivity
Odisha witnessed a major push in rail connectivity as Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw jointly flagged off two new train services — the Puri–Koraput Express Special and the Brahmapur–Udhna (Surat) Amrit Bharat Express.
The Brahmapur–Udhna service, previously operating thrice a week, has now been upgraded to a daily service, strengthening Odisha’s links with Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat.
Meanwhile, the Puri–Koraput Express fulfils a long‑standing demand for direct connectivity between coastal and southern Odisha, benefiting pilgrims, tourists, students, patients, and traders.
Vaishnaw also reviewed the redevelopment of Puri Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and inspected preparations for the upcoming Rath Yatra, which will see over 300 special trains, enhanced passenger amenities, and safety measures for thousands of devotees.
These initiatives align with the vision of “Viksit Odisha” and “Viksit Bharat”, promising balanced regional development, improved tourism, and stronger economic ties across states.
