BJP Announces Koel Mallick and Dinesh Arya as Rajya Sabha Candidates
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced the names of Koel Mallick from West Bengal and Dinesh Arya from Uttarakhand as its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
The nomination of Koel Mallick has drawn significant attention in political circles due to her recent shift from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to the BJP.
The former Rajya Sabha MP resigned from her previous position before joining the saffron party, marking a notable political realignment in West Bengal.
Political observers view her candidature as a strategic move by the BJP to strengthen its presence in West Bengal and broaden its appeal ahead of future electoral contests.
Her entry into the party and immediate nomination reflects the BJP’s confidence in her political influence and public profile.
Meanwhile, the BJP has nominated veteran leader Dinesh Arya from Uttarakhand.
Arya has held several organisational and administrative responsibilities, including serving as the BJP’s Nainital district president and enjoying Minister of State rank in the state.
His nomination is being seen as recognition of his longstanding contribution to the party and an effort to consolidate the BJP’s political base in Uttarakhand.
Voting and counting for 12 Rajya Sabha seats, including 10 from Uttar Pradesh, one from West Bengal and one from Uttarakhand, are scheduled to be held on October 16.
The BJP currently holds 116 seats in the 245-member Upper House of Parliament.
The latest nominations underline the BJP’s broader strategy of combining experienced party leaders with influential political entrants as it seeks to strengthen its position in the Rajya Sabha.
