Odisha IPS Officers Rise to DG Rank in National Empanelment

The Central Government has empanelled two senior Odisha cadre IPS officers for the prestigious rank of Director General (DG) and DG-equivalent posts.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) recently cleared 33 senior IPS officers nationwide, including Odisha’s Dr Sudhanshu Sarangi (1990 batch) and Padmakar S. Ranpise (1995 batch).

Dr Sarangi, currently serving as Director General of Odisha Fire and Emergency Services, has held key positions such as Police Commissioner of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack and Chairman of the Odisha Police Housing Corporation.

His empanelment strengthens his prospects of becoming the next Director General of Police (DGP) in Odisha.

Padmakar S. Ranpise, presently posted as Additional Director General in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), has contributed significantly to airport security, VVIP protection, and infrastructure safety during his central deputation.

Empanelment at the DG level is considered one of the highest professional milestones in an IPS officer’s career, making them eligible to lead national security forces such as the BSF, CRPF, CISF, and ITBP.

This recognition not only elevates Odisha’s representation in national policing but also enhances the state’s visibility in India’s security leadership.
