Bhubaneswar to Get Modern Underground Sewerage by 2028

Bhubaneswar, June 2026: The Odisha Cabinet has approved the long‑awaited Underground Sewerage Project for Bhubaneswar, marking a major step toward modernising the city’s sanitation infrastructure.

The project, to be executed by the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) in collaboration with Watco, has been awarded to SS Technocraft Ventures Limited under EPC mode.

With an estimated cost of Rs 175.47 crore, the contractor will oversee construction and five years of operation and maintenance.

Key infrastructure includes 78.29 km of sewer lines, 3,642 manholes, six pumping stations, and a 7.5 km rising main.

A 20 MLD sewage treatment plant using advanced SBR technology will be set up at Paikrapur, supported by SCADA automation for efficient monitoring.

The first phase will connect nearly 4,921 households, significantly improving sanitation, reducing pollution, and enhancing livability in Bhubaneswar’s urban zones.

The project is scheduled for completion by May 31, 2028.

Officials emphasised that the initiative will strengthen Bhubaneswar’s position as a smart, sustainable city, balancing urban growth with environmental protection.
