Odisha Govt Sets 15‑Day Deadline to Clear Pending Banishree Scholarships

The Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department has issued a strict 15‑day deadline to clear all pending Banishree Scholarship applications for differently‑abled students.

According to official data, 4,144 applications remain pending at the educational institution level, while 593 are stuck at the district level, totalling 4,737 unresolved cases for the 2025‑26 academic year.

District Social Security Officers (DSSOs) have been directed to personally review applications, coordinate with schools for verification, and ensure decisions are made strictly as per scheme guidelines.

Officials warned that this is the final extension, and further delays will invite accountability.

The Banishree Scholarship provides monthly financial assistance ranging from Rs 400 to Rs 700 to differently-abled students from primary to higher education.

It also includes allowances for visually impaired students and transport support for those with severe mobility challenges.

The directive aims to ensure that no eligible student is deprived of timely financial aid, reinforcing the state’s commitment to inclusive education and social empowerment.
